7 steps in this guide
Before you start, have these ready
- Your WordPress administrator sign-in
- The chat add-on on your plan
- Your Ringhero dashboard open in another tab
Step 1: Copy your chat code
Sign in, open Chat, and press the copy button beside the install code. It is one line, and it already contains your account ID.
It looks like this
<script src="https://app.ringhero.example/widget.js" data-org="YOUR_ORG_ID" async></script>What you should see
A message saying the code was copied.
Step 2: Sign in to WordPress
Go to your website address followed by /wp-admin and sign in. You need an administrator account to add code.
What you should see
The WordPress dashboard with a dark menu down the left side.
Step 3: Install a header and footer code plugin
In the left menu choose Plugins, then Add New. Search for "header footer code". Pick a well-reviewed plugin that is kept up to date, press Install Now, then Activate.
If your theme already has a box for footer scripts in its settings, you can use that and skip the plugin.
Note
On WordPress.com, plugins are only available on some plans. If you cannot install one, use the chat link guide.
Step 4: Paste the code into the footer box
Open the plugin's settings. It is usually under Settings or has its own item in the left menu. Find the box labelled Footer or Body end, and paste your chat code there.
Important
Use the footer box, not the header box. The chat loads after your page, so it never slows the page down.
Step 5: Save
Press Save Changes at the bottom of the plugin's page.
What you should see
A message saying the settings were saved.
Step 6: Check it on your live site
Open your website in a new private or incognito window, so you see what a visitor sees. Try it on your phone too.
No button?
Make sure the change is published, then refresh the page. If your site has a cookie banner or a cache plugin, clear the cache and look again.
What you should see
A green button labelled "Chat" in the bottom right corner of your website. Click it and a chat panel opens above the button, which now says "Close".
Step 7: Ask it a real question
Ask about your hours and about a price from your price list. Then ask for something you have not told it.
What you should see
Answers that match your documents. For anything missing, it says the team will confirm and offers to take a name and number.
This guide was written for the beta. If a screen is named a little differently from what you see, the steps still apply in the same order.
