Test your call forwarding
Three short test calls that prove your forwarding works when you do not answer, when you are busy, and when your phone is off.
- About 5 minutes
- No technical skills needed
- For: Anyone who has just set up forwarding or changed their phone plan
7 steps in this guide
Before you start, have these ready
- Your business phone
- A second phone to call from
- Your dashboard open on the Phone screen
Step 1: Open the Phone screen
Sign in and open Phone. The test area waits for a call to arrive. We only receive calls. We never place one to you.
What you should see
A message saying it is waiting for a test call.
Step 2: Test one: do not answer
From the second phone, call your business number. Let your business phone ring and do not pick up.
What you should see
After about 20 seconds the receptionist answers, names your business, and says it is an AI assistant.
Step 3: Check the screen
Look at the Phone screen while the call is connected or just after.
What you should see
The test area turns green and says "Forwarding works", with the time of the call and the last two digits of the number that called.
Step 4: Test two: busy
Make a call from your business phone to anyone, and stay on it. From the second phone, call your business number.
What you should see
The receptionist answers instead of a busy signal or voicemail.
Step 5: Test three: phone off
On a cell, switch on airplane mode. On a landline, skip this test. Call your business number from the second phone.
What you should see
The receptionist answers. Remember to switch airplane mode off afterward.
Step 6: Have a real conversation
On one of the test calls, ask about your hours and say that you smell gas. Then check that the urgent alert reached your on-call contact and the summary reached you.
What you should see
A text summary about a minute after you hang up.
Step 7: If a test fails
If you hear your own voicemail, your phone company's voicemail is answering before the forward. Set the forwarding codes again, then see the troubleshooting guide.
If a code does not work
Codes can differ by plan. If a code doesn't work, call your provider and say: please set conditional call forwarding on busy and no answer to <your Ringhero number>.
This guide was written for the beta. If a screen is named a little differently from what you see, the steps still apply in the same order.
